Work Experience in Kendriya Vidyalaya

1.    Work Experience(WE) is one of the co-scholastic activities like Art Education, Health and physical education.

2.    In all Kendriya Vidyalayas there is a dedicated teacher to teach work experience for the students of class 6 to class 12.

3.    Each week 2 periods are reserved for work experience.

4.    In WE class, different activities are carried out to make the students learn and gain some skill while performing activities. It is based on principle that

 

    The brain must be educated through the hand.

5.    These skills are very helpful for the students in their day to day life.

6.    These classes also involve theory part related to performing these activities.

7.    Activities that are being performed in WE class is based upon suggestive syllabus that has been developed by regional offices of  KVS.

8.    As per availability of teachers activities that are being carried in different school may vary.

8(a)  If WE teacher is from Home Science back ground,    activities may include craft, needle work, cooking etc.

8(b) If WE teacher is from electrical background then most of the activities will be related to electrical items.

8(c) In KV No.1 Bokaro all the activities to be conducted in class 6 onwards will be related to electrical items.

9.    Sometimes students may be asked to bring some electrical items or electrical components to perform the activities. However after completion of the activities student will take all items with themselves. Nothing will be kept in Vidyalaya. It is expected that parents will cooperate in this regard. 
10.    Apart from Electrical activities, WE class also guides students about

·       Health and Hygiene,

·       Cleanliness and Sanitation,

·       First Aid

·       Good Food and Nutrition habits

· Helping school authorities in organizing exhibitions,  school functions

Evaluation/Grading Point

* Class 6 to class 8 students will get either A grade or B grade or C grade after completion of each activities. And based on all the activities conducted throughout the year they will be given A, B or C grade.

* Class 9 to class 12 students will get A, B, C, D or E grade after completion of each activity. And based on all the activities conducted throughout the year they will be given A, B, C, D or E grade.

Activity Book/WE Lab record

* All students have to maintain activity book throughout the year. It will be one of science Lab record/Practical notebook available in book shops. It has plane and ruled pages in alternate.

Note: Some teachers also uses the term Work Education or SUPW(Socially Useful Productive Work) which has almost similar meaning as Work experience.
